Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has provided some updates regarding the No.1 goalkeeper spot at the club. As we all know that the main players fighting for this spot are Dean Henderson and David De Gea.
As reported by ESPN, Solskjaer has talked about the healthy competition in the squad and about the current goalkeeping situation at the club.
He said: “It depends on the characters you’ve got and how they gel. It’s healthy competition. If you’re too comfortable, I don’t think you get the best out of yourself. You need an edge, but it has to be healthy for the team and healthy for the group. If it’s toxic and it’s energy-sapping, that’s not great. Last year, it was a new situation for David and a new situation for Dean. This year, let’s see how it works out.”
David De Gea was the number one goalkeeper last season and was used the most number of times by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. Meanwhile, Dean Henderson was played in between just to provide some game-time for both.
Dean Henderson played 26 games, whereas David De Gea played 36 games last season in all competitions
But Dean Henderson has improved a lot since returning from Sheffield United. He has shown great progress and has been keeping clean sheets whenever he has been given the chance to start ahead of De Gea. He was able to keep 13 clean sheets in 22 matches.

David De Gea was a regular last season, until March where he took some time off as he traveled to Spain for the birth of his daughter. Dean Henderson was able to fit his name into the team back then and had impressed Solksjaer.
De Gea soon returned and started against Villarreal for the Europa League final. Ultimately, he was unable to save even a single penalty in the final penalty shoot-out and missed his spot-kick as well. After the match, they were rumors targeting the Spaniard and the fact that Solksjaer will stick to Dean Henderson next season.
Manchester United has also signed Tom Heaton from Aston Villa in replacement of Sergio Romero. He will also provide some fresh competition for the United goalkeepers.
So the main question is: Will it be Dean Henderson or David De Gea next season?
