Manchester United confirm signing of Tom Heaton from Aston Villa

As reported by the club’s official website, Manchester United has announced that Tom Heaton, who went through 13 years at the club as a youth, has signed a two-year contract after his free transfer from Aston Villa, with the contract including the chance to extend for a further year.

Manchester United declared the signing of the 35-year-old shot-stopper, who left leaving Aston Villa following the expiry of his contract, with an exquisite video that showed the goalkeeper out on the training pitch.

The England goalkeeper, who will offer rivalry to Dean Henderson and David de Gea as the club has reinforced their goalkeeping choices following the arrival of Sergio Romero, adds that he loves the ‘fighting mentality’ of the club, and said that he will do his best for the team following years of hard luck.

Heaton played the best football of his profession with Burnley in a spell that won him three caps for England before he left for Aston Villa.

To say the least, the transfer to Aston Villa never truly worked out as Heaton endured a bad knee injury in his debut season with the club, leaving them to continue onward to play another No.1 goalkeeper since.

Heaton’s voice played over the clip where he speaks about his incredible journey at the club and its a great feeling to be back to his boyhood club.

I was brought up in the academy, so I understand the mentality. Itโ€™s about being part of something bigger than yourself. Itโ€™s about being dedicated and resilient. I feel incredibly excited, I feel great, I feel like I can bring something, so yeah, Iโ€™m looking forward to getting started. Iโ€™m proud of my journey and Iโ€™m delighted to be back where I started my career.โ€

It stays not yet clear how the arrival of Tom Heaton will affect David De Gea or Dean Henderson’s chances, but he is certain to bring good competition at that spot.

There’s likewise no official announcement regarding Lee Grant’s contract extension. Manchester United is expected to provide a new one year contract to him.
