Manchester United keeping close tabs on Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou

As reported by Metro, Manchester United is interested in signing Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Ralf Rangnick looking to bolster his goalkeeping options.

The Red Devils have asked about the Moroccan international’s current scenario at the club, as his contract expires in 2024. Sevilla are trying to make the goalkeeper sign a new deal, which could increase his release clause from £25 million to £63 million.

Yassine Bounou left Spanish giants Atletico Madrid for Zaragoza (on loan) in 2016, having never played in the top flight games. His following moves were to Girona and Sevilla, with the latter signing him for a sum of €4.5 million in September 2020.

This season, the 30-year-old has made 23 appearances in La Liga, totaling 2070 minutes. He is now one of the most prominent goalkeepers in La Liga, conceding just 0.52 goals per 90 minutes.

Bounou’s clean sheet-to-matches-played ratio is now at 52 percent, meaning he hasn’t allowed a single goal in 12 of the 23 games he’s played. It goes without saying that the Montreal-born shot-stopper has been instrumental in Sevilla’s continued success in La Liga this season.

There’s no point in arguing on the fact that David de Gea has been outstanding for Manchester United this season, nevertheless, he’s been criticized for lacking the traits that modern goalkeepers require.

This season, the Spaniard’s pass distribution rate have been not so convincing, but that could change after a new manager arrives.

Dean Henderson is expected to be sold in the summer, with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Watford, and Borussia Dortmund all keen on signing him.

Given the current circumstances, bringing in Yassine Bounou to add to de Gea’s competition could be the best option. He fits the bill, and the board should go all out to get his signature if he is available for a reasonable price.
