As reported by the club’s official website, Anthony Martial has returned to first-team training ahead of Thursday’s important Europa League match against Real Sociedad.
The Red Devils need to defeat the La Liga team by a score of at least two goals to top Group E, where they are currently trailing by three points.
It won’t be simple as it is an away game, but United have already received a welcome boost, as Martial has now returned to training after suffering a hip injury. The French striker has been sidelined since suffering the injury against Everton in early October, but he might feature against the Spanish side at the Anoeta Stadium. The 26-year-old has played a significant role for United despite having a season marred by injuries.
From just four outings, Martial has recorded three goals and two assists. He has contributed to a goal in each of his four games played under Erik ten Hag.
His performance has thus far been fairly good, but due to injuries, he was unable to contribute significantly to his club’s first half of the season.
Prior to the World Cup, United has four more games to play. Naturally, Ten Hag will handle Martial carefully. The Frenchman could be allowed to play cameo roles for the team. Due to the entry of clubs from the Champions League like Barcelona, Ajax, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus, this season’s round of 32 matchup may be among the hardest ever.
Hence, United need to top group E in order to avoid playing against the teams that have been knocked out of the Champions league.
