Nottingham Forest are not willing to pay £25 million for Dean Henderson

According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are not willing to pay the £25 million fee demanded by Manchester United for goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

However, Forest remains optimistic about reaching an agreement with United to secure the English keeper’s services this summer. The 26-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Forest and the club is keen to retain the talented goalkeeper.

Henderson, who came up through the academy at Old Trafford, may be on the move soon, especially after David de Gea signs a new contract.

It is expected that a deal will be swiftly finalized once de Gea commits to fresh terms with the Red Devils.

Henderson appeared poised to become United’s future number-one goalkeeper following his successful loan spell at Sheffield United.

During the 2020/21 season, the 26-year-old shared playing time with De Gea. However, the Spaniard ultimately retained his starting position, leaving Henderson without regular minutes.

The Englishman was in fine form in the first half of the campaign at Nottingham Forest, but unfortunately, he was sidelined by injury in recent months.

Forest managed to avoid relegation with the help of Keylor Navas, who joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Despite de Gea’s inconsistencies and subpar distribution, he has been favoured by United manager Erik Ten Hag. Henderson has been viewed as a reliable backup option.

If Forest is unwilling to meet United’s asking price, it may be advantageous for them to keep hold of the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
