The latest reports have claimed that Manchester United are looking to negotiate a deal for Fernando Llorente as the Spanish forward is a free agent at the moment.
Most of the Manchester United faithful wanted Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku out of the club and their wish came true as the 26-year-old joined Serie A side Inter Milan earlier this summer transfer window. However, the departure of the star forward meant that there will be a shortage of goals at the club as Lukaku would find the net on a regular basis for the Red Devils.
Lukaku’s ability to hold up play and involve the rest of his teammates into the attack will be another trait that Manchester United will be lacking. But Solskjaer is looking for another optio who can deliver similar kind of attributes for his team and has pointed out Spanish forward Fernando Llorente as the man to fill in the void for Lukaku.
The 34-year-old was a key member for Tottenham Hotspur as they reached the finals of the Champions League last season and Llorente scored eight times for the North London outfit. But that was not enough to land him a contract extension at Tottenham as the club decided to let him leave on a free transfer instead.
Now with the new season still only a few weeks old, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskajer is trying to swoop in for Llorente to use him as an option in the attacking third. Llorente may not fit in well with United’s new style of play because he is already 34 years of age but his experience and presence on the pitch will do loads of good for the young United forwards.
The 20 time League champions are hoping to sign Llorente on a two-year contract as he is still a free agent and Solskjaer could add some depth to his attacking lineup.
