Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison believes that Manchester United was embarrassed by West Ham United on Sunday after their 2-0 defeat and he also questioned the clubs transfer policy after the sold two big-name forwards.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United suffered their second defeat in the Premier League this season at the weekend as Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell got the goals for West Ham United at the London Stadium in a 2-0 win. The pressure is beginning to grow on Solskjaer as the Red Devils have managed just two wins this season and they are sitting 8th on the Premier League table.
The Norwegian had his first actual summer transfer window this year to purchase the players he that was required and United made quite a splash in the market as they lured in Harry Maguire from Leicester City in a world record transfer making the 26-year-old English star the most expensive defender of all time at £80 million. The Red Devils also spent big on Aaron Wan Bissaka to sign the right-back from Crystal Palace in a £50 million deal and Welsh winger Daniel James from Swansea City.
But despite the new signings at the club United does not seem to be improving under Solskjaer as the club also decided to offload star forward Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer to Inter Milan leaving them short of options in attack. Marcus Rashford was the only fit striker for United until the West Ham game but the 21-year-old might be out for a while with a groin injury and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood seems to be the only player Solskjaer can field in the center-forwards position until Anthony Martial and Rashford return from their injuries.
Don Hutchison spoke to ESPN as a pundit and explained that United have to back Solskjaer and the Scotsman slammed the transfer board, “What Ole’s got to pick with, the team isn’t actually that good He’s got a good crop of youngsters, I don’t think they’ve got enough quality to lead Man Utd going forward. I think he’s been left in the lurch from the higher level – at the boardroom level – when you look at what he’s been left to deal with. Yes, it would have been Ole’s decision to sell Alexis [Sanchez] and [Romelu] Lukaku, which was a big decision, in my opinion, to sell Lukaku without a replacement.”
