Marcos Rojo set to leave United

Manchester United FC centre-back Marcos Rojo has been shipped out on-loan to his native Argentine club Estudiantes from January. The Argentine international has had a difficult time at Old Trafford with loads of recurring injuries and suspensions stopping his growth. Finally, the club and the Argentine centre-back look to part ways as he seeks permission from the club to train in Argentina.

The 30-year old joined Manchester United at the beginning of the 2014/15 season from Sporting Lisbon, under Louis Van Gaal. Rojo had impressed with his performances at the Portuguese club and had made his name as a robust, yet ball-playing centre-back. Rojo is left-footed and could also play as a left-back and was first deployed in that position by Van Gaal.

In his entire Manchester United career, Rojo has played a total of only 122 matches from 2014 to 2020. To put that into context, the Argentinean has missed about 93 games due to injury, which throws light on his poor fitness record. Rojo has also had a poor disciplinary record, whenever he has played, because of his tackling.

Solskjaer wanted to give Rojo a last chance this season, and also played him for nine matches this season. Rojo has also featured in the Premier League thrice this season for the Red Devils. But due to his lacklustre performances and dismal attitude, he was loaned out to Estudiantes in January, where he hasn’t done his career any good.

At his native Argentina, Rojo has played only one match for Estudiantes where he assisted a goal and has then been injured. Because of a thigh injury, Rojo has been on the sidelines in Argentina and has reportedly missed four games already. With lockdown imposed in Argentina, Rojo was seen playing cards with his friends outside, which irritated both the United and Estudiantes board.

Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are looking to sell up to six players to fund new recruits this transfer window. Marcos Rojo finally, looks set to depart the club after a frustrating six-year stint at Old Trafford. The 30-year old has taken permission from Solskjaer to remain in Argentina and continue his training, even though his loan expired on 30th June.
