Manchester United is looking for a world-class midfielder, and Declan Rice has been linked with the club for a long time. However, former Manchester United player, Andy Cole has other thoughts.
Rice has admirers at United, but West Ham has recently said that they will not sell their prized asset for anything less than £100 million, which David Moyes recently claimed may climb to about £150 million.
Instead of throwing the cash on signing the West Ham United defensive midfielder, the Red Devils legend feels it is wiser to break the bank for Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
Manchester United is in need of a reliable playmaker and a creative midfielder, and the ex-Birmingham City star would be the ideal fit. In all competitions, the teenage sensation has scored 6 goals and given 13 assists for Borussia Dortmund this season.
Bellingham is a complete midfielder who has already proven himself at the No. 6, No. 8, and No. 10 positions for Borussia Dortmund.
And Andy Cole feels that he could be a bright option for United rather than cash-spilling Declan Rice. As reported by the Metro, he said:
“150m for a holding midfield player? That’s a lot of money. Not sure how many goals he’s going to get you from that position. We were just talking, if the opportunity comes about when Rice is available in the summer and you had Bellingham come available, who would you spend your £150m on?”
“Personally, I would go with Bellingham, he’s 18 years of age and he goes that way, that way, he creates chances, he scores goals. For such a young man, his ability is absolutely frightening. Bellingham has something extra, just energy.”
The youngster’s contract has more than three years left on it, and reports claim that Dortmund will only let him depart if a sum of £83.5 million (100 million euros) is paid.
That too is a huge sum but considering his talents, the Red Devils could have a mighty player in their hands. Obviously, the board will act to bring down that fee and could try to lure the teenager to Old Trafford.
However, United is not alone as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on the Dortmund star.
With the club looking to sign Erik ten Hag this summer, Bellingham would get an ideal environment to grow as the Dutch manager is renowned for turning young stars into world-class players.
