While talking to MUFC official app, Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial has revealed his biggest inspiration that made him indulge in the game of football.
The inspiration is none other than the Portuguese galactic Cristiano Ronaldo whom the Frenchman wants to encore. The Frenchman dreamt of replicating his idol and stepping into the dazzling shoes of Ronaldo. Martial adored Ronaldo’s style of play, dribbling abilities, and long distant shots.
It was his hunger to replicate and become like CR7 that shaped his future of football. Martial told the club’s official website:
“It was Cristiano Ronaldo. He was incredible. He is incredible. I only admired players who dribbled the ball and he did just that. He would put on a real show.”
“To tell you the truth, he got me dreaming that one day it could be me.
I used to watch videos of everyone! Henry, Ronaldo – and another player who I really liked was Nicolas Anelka. He was a really great player, quick with loads of skill.”
Martial is in sublime form and his realm of consistency just seems to have begun. The player who was wet behind the ears, a few years back has not transformed into United’s dependable equity.
While other forwards of United are struggling to find back of the nets, Martial has been smashing balls past opponents keeper with utter ease and pure elegance.
What we used to see a decade back in Ronaldo, his goal-scoring ability, his power to outnumber opponents and wriggles past opponent through left-wing is somewhere now being witnessed in Martial’s game.
It may not be easy to emulate a legend of such aura and composure but Martial surely has turned out one thing in common with Ronaldo this season, consistency in scoring goals and winning games. Maybe, few years down the line this 22-year old youngster will be breaking headlines.
