According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United are currently ahead of Manchester United in the pursuit of Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
The French international has been on United’s radar since March, and the club has already engaged in discussions with the player’s representatives.
Contrary to United, Newcastle have taken the lead in the race to sign Disasi. While the English giants have held talks with Disasi’s agent, they have not yet entered into discussions with Monaco.
On the other hand, the Magpies are recently engaged in discussions with Disasi’s agent and have made formal contact with Monaco regarding a potential transfer.

Despite Monaco not having received concrete offers for Disasi at the moment, Newcastle are currently considered the frontrunner to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

United are also considering a summer move for Disasi but it appears that any potential transfer could be contingent upon the departure of Harry Maguire.
The Red Devils had initially shown interest in signing Kim Min-jae from Napoli, but the defender has decided to join Bayern Munich instead.
As a result, Disasi has been identified as the alternative option for United. However, United must act quickly to prevent Newcastle United from securing Disasi’s signature.
The French star has already expressed his willingness to join United, but the club needs to offload Maguire first in order to generate funds for the transfer.
West Ham are currently interested in a centre-back, and United hopes to secure a substantial fee for him to focus on signing Disasi.

This process needs to happen within a short timeframe, as Newcastle have already made contact with Monaco, indicating their interest in Disasi.
The French defender would be a valuable addition to United, bringing a strong aerial and physical presence to the team, along with his ability to make progressive runs.
Monaco are reportedly seeking at least €40 million for his transfer this summer.
