Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea described his almost decade-long attachment at Old Trafford as a “dream” and plans to remain at the club for a long time in the future.
The 29-year-old Spanish shot-stopper De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 for a reported £19million which was incidentally a British record fee for a goalkeeper at the time.
After an initially tricky settling-in period at the red half of Manchester, De Gea established himself as an indispensable part of the team and one of the world’s best between the sticks.
A return to LaLiga to join Real Madrid fell through in August 2015, but the Spaniard swiftly signed a new contract extension at Manchester United after that and then agreed on another extension last September, keeping him at the Premier League side until the summer of 2023.
However, one cause for concern has been De Gea’s form over the past few years. The veteran goalkeeper has not been as consistent as some might expect, giving rise to suggestions from a section of supporters at United they might be better off giving Dean Henderson who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, a chance to prove himself next season.
Meanwhile, De Gea does not seem concerned about his future with the club insisting that he wants to remain at United for many more years. While speaking to United hangout, Spain number 1 explained, “Just to be a part of this club is amazing. So, imagine, [nearly] 10 years, it’s like a dream, “It’s great to play games with this club, so I hope I can be here more years, many years”
