As speculation over his future grows, Manchester United player Diogo Dalot has talked about his future and what went wrong at his current club that stopped his growth.
The Portuguese right-back had a good season with AC Milan but still, he decided to stay with Manchester United this season. Dalot has always intended to stay at United after declining an offer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing the teenage defender for Roma in the upcoming transfer window.
The former Man United manager was the one who brought the talented defender to Old Trafford. He had also described him as one of the future stars in his position. Unfortunately, the dynamic defender’s career has not advanced as quickly as many had planned.
As reported by The Telegraph, he said:
“I had two struggling years with my body. My body was changing and I had some injuries and needed to step up to get to the other players’ level in terms of fitness. It wasn’t growing pains.”
“You adapt, then you get injured, and when you return the team is at a high level of intense training, playing games. I was probably pushing too much and my body was not dealing very well with that adapting.”
“That is why I knew last season was massive for me. My body was feeling those changes and when I went to Milan it was perfect to balance everything and return to this season. That is why I wanted to stay here, fight for games and be an important player for the team.”
“I wanted to stay here and the club trusted me to stay here. My mind was completely focused on having an important role in this team.”
Dalot’s attacking abilities are undeniable, but his ability to defend is questioned, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is definitely superior in that area. Due to the Englishman’s dismal record this season, fans have urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to use the Portuguese full-back more frequently.
Dalot does not appear to be interested in turning the tide right now, but he will be dissatisfied with the limited game time he has received thus far.
