Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has backed striker Marcus Rashford to make it to England national squad after missing out on the Nation’s league fixtures for this month.
The prolific goalscorer has been in fine form this season as he has already scored three goals and provided two assists. His brace against Arsenal was the icing on the cake but he couldn’t play the entire 90 minutes due to a minor injury.
Although he would be available soon, the manager didn’t risk him and kept him out of the squad for the clash against Sheriff. However, his good form was not able to hand him a place on Garth Southgate’s side.
England will be playing against Italy and Germany in their month and they will be preparing themselves for the upcoming World Cup. However, the exclusion of Rashford was not a permanent one with the England manager revealing that he may consider giving the 24-year-old a spot in the team if he continues to play in this fashion.
Ten Hag has further backed the academy graduate and he believes that the attacker can make it to the World Cup squad this November. As reported by SkySports, he said:
“It’s quite obvious and quite clear (he can). He played really good seasons and this season he has had a great comeback. He’s shown his great potential and quality. No, I don’t think too long (his absence), but I cannot tell how long. It’s not really bad and we expect him to be back quite soon in the team.”
Rashford is not the only United player who has missed the list, with Jadon Sancho also getting a rude omission even after being in fine form for the Reds. The former Borussia Dortmund attacker was on the scoresheet against Sheriff and he would that his goal-scoring spree may hand him a place in the squad.
After all, both players will be looking forward to getting redemption after missing their spot-kicks against Italy in Euro 2020.
