Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, David de Gea is set to receive a farewell in front of the supporters following his departure from the club this summer.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been with the team for 12 seasons but has now left Old Trafford. He has been replaced by Andre Onana, who made the switch from Inter Milan to take on the goalkeeping role for the team.
De Gea was unable to bid farewell to the United fans as discussions about a contract extension were still ongoing towards the end of the last season.
Unfortunately, both parties couldn’t reach an agreement on the terms of a new deal. Manager Erik ten Hag was seeking a goalkeeper who could play effectively from the back, leading to the signing of Onana as De Gea’s replacement.
The club faced criticism for not giving De Gea a proper send-off, but it appears they are now planning to rectify that situation by organizing a deserved farewell for the long-serving goalkeeper.
As revealed by ESPN journalist Rob Dawson, the manager said:
“For the rest of his life, he is a legend. We have to say farewell at Old Trafford in front of all the fans, absolutely.”
It appears that Man United have come to realize their mistake and are now willing to handle the situation with De Gea in the right manner.
Although manager Ten Hag was no longer interested in keeping the former Atletico Madrid star at the club, the issue should have been resolved well before the end of the season.

De Gea is considered a legend at Man United and will be remembered as one of their all-time best goalkeepers.
Currently a free agent, the 32-year-old has been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan, but he has turned down their offer as he is seeking a contract that offers double the terms they presented.
De Gea is unlikely to be without a club for long, and while there have been talks of a move to Saudi Arabia, he may prefer to stay in Europe and prove himself elsewhere.
