Injury Update

Erik ten Hag provides a mixed injury update on Luke Shaw and Aaron-Wan Bissaka

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has offered an update on the injuries of Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in anticipation of their Premier League match against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Both defenders sustained injuries in August and September. While they haven’t joined training sessions yet, Ten Hag has indicated that Wan-Bissaka is close to making his return.

Shaw and Wan-Bissaka were the preferred full-back choices for Manager Ten Hag last season, and their absence has been noticeable as United have struggled to prevent their opponents from scoring.

Based on the manager’s update, it appears that Wan-Bissaka is nearing his comeback and is expected to participate in full training sessions in the coming weeks before returning to the first-team lineup.

While speaking to the club’s official website, the gaffer said:

“Of course, they are closer [to a comeback]. But so, for instance, Luke Shaw, I don’t expect him back in this block of games. For instance, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I don’t think he’s too far away from returning into team training and so back in the team.”

While Dalot may offer a more vital attacking dimension, the English star is renowned for his exceptional one-on-one defensive skills, which have been sorely missed by the team.

In the meantime, Shaw’s return may have to wait until after the upcoming international break. The experienced defender had been a consistent presence in United’s left-back position prior to his injury.

Although the Red Devils have a capable replacement in Sergio Reguilon, fans are eager to see the Englishman back in action because of his ability to strike the right balance between attack and defence.

United have only managed to secure 12 points from their first eight league matches, putting them five points behind the top four. Their upcoming game against Sheffield United today is considered a crucial must-win match.
