Sergio Romero has been great for Manchester United whenever he has been called up to play in between the sticks. The Argentine international has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Dean Henderson following the completion of his loan at Sheffield United. It is now being reported by The Times that Everton are trying to sign Romero from Manchester United.
Dean Henderson has signed a long-term contract with United and has publicly stated his wish of being United’s No.1. Currently, he is Manchester United’s No.2 between the sticks, which was previously Romero’s position. The Argentine goalkeeper has never really challenged De Gea for the main spot between the sticks but that is the need of the hour looking at De Gea’s lack of consistency in goal.
It is now being reported that Everton are looking at Romero to give competition to Jordan Pickford. Pickford has struggled in goal and has fumbled several times in the last couple of seasons in the Premier League. United will be cherished if they manage to sell Romero this summer, as is worth about £8-12m according to the Red Devils.
Though Everton have not been in contact with United for Romero, his agent has been in contact with the Merseyside club. Only time will tell if the Red Devils are able to offload Romero or not with the transfer window closing on October 5.
