As reported by Fabrizio Romano, former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been in talks with Spanish team Granada for a potential move this summer. He will be joining as a free agent and will be soon signing an agreement.
The Argentinian shot-stopper has been a free agent for the last three months. United filled his spot by signing Tom Heaton from Aston Villa as a free agent. United released their backup goalkeeper for free and he will be available for other teams as a free agent.
Chelsea was reportedly looking to sign him but they have now signed Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham for free. This makes Granada his next available destination.
Sergio Romero spent six years at Manchester United and has mostly played as a backup for David De Gea. In 61 appearances for the Red Devils, he has kept 39 clean sheets. It is a good record and it was one of the reasons that teams like Chelsea and Everton were interested in signing the player as a backup.
His biggest achievement was winning the Uefa Europa League with Manchester United during Mourinho’s helm. United defeated Ajax in 2017 to lift the prestigious trophy.
It would be ideal for Sergio Romero to get more regular game-time. More bench-warming will be cruel for a player like him.
