French centre-back Raphael Varane will be fit to face Australia

Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane will be fit to play for France’s World Cup opener against Australia. Les Bleus will play their first match at Al-Janoub Stadium on Tuesday.

Didier Deschamps’ team will also face Tunisia and Denmark in a crunch Group D clash. Many supporters believe they have a good chance of making it to the knockout rounds.

Prior to the start of the midseason competition, France had a few injury setbacks. Karim Benzema and Christopher Nkunku have withdrawn from the World Cup due to injuries.

Paul Pogba, who recently left the Red Devils to join Juventus, will also be absent for Les Blues. N’Golo Kante of Chelsea and Presnel Kimpembe of Paris Saint-Germain are two more significant absentees.

Thus, the 2018 World Cup winner’s chances of keeping their status in Qatar have been severely hampered by fitness issues. The majority of these players were essential to Deshamps’ team winning the World Cup title in 2018.

However, prior to their opening match against Australia, Deschamps received a major boost. Varane would be fit to play against Graham Arnold’s team.

The French coach revealed that the star centre-back can make it through for the opening match. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“Raphael Varane was working hard in training. He will be available for our first game against Australia.”

In the summer of 2021, the former Real Madrid centre-back joined the Old Trafford outfit. Unfortunately, his tenure in Manchester up to now has been hampered by fitness problems.

Varane appeared to be back to his best with Lisandro Martinez at the back line. However, due to an injury sustained against Chelsea in the Premier League, the French star has missed United’s last few games.

While the majority of United fans will be happy for the French defender, they also want to see him return home without any injuries.
