Dean Henderson was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League last season and showed his potential to the entire world. The Englishman signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, earlier this week, to seal his future at Old Trafford. After getting a call-up for the England national squad for the Nations League, England manager Gareth Southgate has hailed Henderson’s progress.
After spending a couple of seasons on-loan at Sheffield United, Henderson has proven United that he has the potential to replace De Gea. The latter has had a dismal season in the Premier League with reports stating that Solskjaer has given him a year’s ultimatum to sort things out. Henderson’s new contract also means that he will stay at United and will give De Gea competition for the No.1 spot.
England manager, Gareth Southgate has praised Henderson over his development and feels his decision to stay at United is a good one. Southgate said “If I was him and I had the chance to push to be the Manchester United number one, then I’d make the same decision he has. He’s got the chance to train every day in front of the manager, to influence him and put David de Gea under pressure for his place.”
Henderson is expected to push De Gea for the No.1 spot in between the sticks for United and is surely the long-term replacement for De Gea.
