Spanish club Granada CF are in discussions with Manchester United regarding a potential loan deal for their young full-back, Alvaro Fernandez.
The 20-year-old left-back is being targeted by the Spaniards, who are looking to secure his services on loan with an option to buy, as stated by journalist Lyall Thomas.
Despite not making a senior appearance for United since his arrival from Real Madrid’s academy in 2020, Fernandez could still have a future at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag gave the Spanish defender an opportunity to showcase his skills during the club’s pre-season preparations, and his performance in a friendly against Leeds United caught the eye of the Dutch manager.

Fernandez demonstrated promise against Leeds, but his lack of experience in top-flight football has hindered his progress at United, evident from his absence at the start of the new Premier League season.
His current contract with the club expires in 2024, but the club is considering the option of extending it for another year before considering his departure.

La Liga club Granada are now interested in offering Fernandez a chance to play in Spain’s top flight as they look for cost-effective signings to strengthen their squad.
Manager Paco Lopez has previously used a similar strategy to sign Jesus Vallejo from Real Madrid. However, Granada has struggled in their opening league games, losing both by two-goal margins.
Given the club’s defensive issues, they are in need of immediate signings to improve their chances of avoiding relegation from La Liga. United could potentially help them in this regard.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils have reservations about parting with Fernandez, as they see him as a promising left-back option for the future, particularly given Tyrell Malacia’s difficulties in adapting to the Premier League.
Burnley have also shown interest in Fernandez, making an inquiry about his availability following a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.
