With the summer transfer window approaching every club in Europe is trying to get players to strengthen their ally. One such player that tops the chart is Erling Braut Haaland. At the age of just 21, he is being hunted by various top clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. At the moment he has a contract with Dortmund that allows him to stay there till 2024, but there is a release clause that would allow him to join any club for a fee of 75 million euros. With the amount of goal contribution, he has over the years in his domestic league and the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE it’s a modern-day bargain.
United has lost a young talent Mason Greenwood due to suspension and with Anthony Martial on loan to Sevilla its only Cristiano Ronaldo and Edison Cavani as the two strikers. Both are exceptionally talented individuals but a young and hungry striker like Haaland would strengthen the attack. Haaland is gifted with a brilliant physic and his pace is completely unmatched and it makes extremely difficult for the defenders to catch hold off.
In a few seasons with Dortmund, he has proved his worth. Haaland is a goal-machine. Only player that comes closer to his ability is the French man Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe could have been an option for United if they didn’t end up getting Sancho last summer for 80 million pounds. At the age of 21 Haaland has bagged a total of 56 goals in just 57 Bundesliga appearances. These are some crazy numbers. On the other hand, in the 2020-21 UCL season he scored 10 goals becoming the top scorer that season.
United can see a lot of players leaving this summer window as Pogba is still reluctant to sign the contract extension, and Cavani leaving as the rumours suggest there is vacancy for the striker’s position alongside Ronaldo. With Haaland joining United’s hand, he can have a good link up play Sancho up the right and Rashford up the left flanks. Rashord and Sancho both are gifted with a brilliant dribbling ability and pace. Premier League gives the player a taste of real competition. Winning games aren’t as easy as those in Germany and France. Games in England are not high scoring but to keep up with the momentum is tough. The gameplay out here is tough and sprightly.
United doesn’t lack resources in any aspect and getting in Haaland shouldn’t be much of an issue. Trying to make him a Mancunian totally depends on him and the new manager that is supposed to guide United in the upcoming season. United’s defensive ability is poor when it is compared with other top-tier clubs of Europe. Haaland would be keener on joining a club that plays UCL rather than UEL football. In this case, United is on the backfoot as top 4 hopes seems less likely. Players like Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes have an excellent vision and Haaland won’t have any problems scoring those through balls or lofted balls from them.
What makes United Haaland’s next destination is because of the counter attacking ability. We have seen on many occasions that he has scored goals on the counter. This is where his pace comes in handy. Van Dijk told Sky Sports that, “Haaland is a special striker”.
Ralf Ragnick in one of his press conferences has confirmed that, “it is obvious Manchester United will need a younger striker next season”. However, a new striker is a must in the summer but opting not to chase Haaland could signal a change for a better Manchester United side. Looking for the long-term aspect should be the goal and not just getting a marquee signing. However, Haaland is one such player that the footballing universe is appreciating and in whichever team he joins he will shine.
