Inter Milan join Manchester United in the race to sign Mehdi Taremi

According to a report in the Portuguese publication Record (page 17), Inter Milan have entered the competition to secure the signing of Manchester United target Mehdi Taremi during the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Iranian star had an impressive season in 2022/23 while playing for Porto. He showcased his scoring prowess by netting an impressive 31 goals and also contributed 14 assists in 51 appearances.

Porto are willing to part ways with Taremi for a fee of €20 million, considering he only has one year remaining on his contract.

United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly values the qualities of Taremi, but the club now faces fresh competition from Inter Milan for the 30-year-old striker.

Inter, led by Simone Inzaghi, have shifted their focus to Taremi after cooling their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku. The striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while, and United have shown interest in him for some time.

However, United will need to act swiftly in negotiations with Porto. In addition to Inter, Arsenal are also interested in signing the former Rio Ave player. Taremi seems to have his sights set on joining a Champions League club and has turned down a move to Saudi Arabia.

United are currently considering making a move for Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, but there is a possibility that Ten Hag could convince the club to sign Taremi as a backup striker.

The reliability of Anthony Martial has been questionable due to persistent injuries, as he missed 29 games last season. As a result, there is a chance that Martial could be sold.

Taremi would be a valuable addition to the squad, as he is considered a more accomplished striker than Wout Weghorst, who had a disappointing loan spell from Burnley last season.

Taremi possesses a strong aerial presence and excels in holding up play. He demonstrates excellent finishing skills and is also capable of creating scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Taremi’s distribution skills in the final third are noteworthy, and his well-rounded attributes would align well with Ten Hag’s preferences.

The manager may be looking for a second striker who can bring a different dynamic to games.
