Jose Mourinho has wished Manchester United the best of luck under Erik ten Hag after being proven ‘correct’ on the club’s problems.
Ten Hag will lead United into a new era next season as the club attempts to overturn a decade of decline, with the former Ajax manager becoming the club’s latest high-profile coach to take command at Old Trafford.
From 2016 to 2018, Mourinho spent two and a half seasons with the Red Devils, winning the League Cup and the Europa League in his first season.

Those trophies are the club’s last significant titles, and Mourinho famously declared that finishing second in the 2017/18 season was one of his finest managerial successes, while talking about the club’s struggles behind the scenes.
Since then, United has struggled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, with the team setting a new low for Premier League points in the 2021/22 season.
Mourinho expressed his optimism that the team will improve under Ten Hag next season, but noted that he has been proven correct due to ongoing troubles at United.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“Of course my English connection is Chelsea, that’s the way I’m seen, as a Chelsea man. Two periods at Chelsea, six years. But Man United, the fans are special. There is lots of good people inside the club, it’s not like I’m happy to be right.”
“I’m not happy to be right, I’ll like to be wrong. But I knew that I was right. I knew that for me to leave was not going to resolve the situation. I knew that, unfortunately. I wish them the best, honestly, I wish them the best and hopefully they make it.”
Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma team won the UEFA Europa Conference League on Wednesday, making him only the second manager in history to win five major European trophies after Giovanni Trapattoni.
Mourinho completed a unique European trophy haul when Roma beat Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana to ensure he could add the inaugural Conference League to his collection.
Mourinho had previously won the Champions League, Europa League, and UEFA Cup.
