Leeds United vs Manchester United: Match Preview

Manchester United travel to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon to face Leeds United, and they will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League victories.

The Red Devils are currently in the fourth position, two points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham United, while Leeds are currently in 15th place, six points clear of the relegation zone heading into the next round of fixtures.

Leeds United has won five, drawn eight, and lost ten of their last 23 league games this season putting them in 15th place in the table.

Last season, the Whites were superb on their return to the PL, finishing ninth, but there is no doubt that things have been tougher this season, and there are many clubs watching them closely, especially Everton and Newcastle United who are showing signs of improvement.

Last month, Marcelo Bielsa’s side won back-to-back league games against Burnley and West Ham, but they have only one point from their last nine games, drew with Aston Villa after losing at home to Newcastle and losing away to Everton.

Leeds face three league games in a row against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur, and they will be anxious to get one over on United, who won 5-1 at Old Trafford in August, although the points were shared in a goalless draw at Elland Road last season.

The Whites have struggled at Elland Road this season, picking up just 13 points from 11 games, which is the fourth-worst record in the division, and have won just one of their past four league games there, losing at home to Newcastle on January 22.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will be coming off a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes on the scoresheet, moving the Red Devils above West Ham into fourth place in the rankings.

Despite reports of unrest in the squad, interim manager Ralf Rangnick has insisted that there is a positive atmosphere in the locker room, and Harry Maguire will remain the club captain.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough earlier this month, but they still have a lot to play for this season, including a top-four finish in the league and a trip to Atletico Madrid for the opening leg of their Champions League last-16 tie next week.

Man United are unbeaten in their previous six league games, winning three of their last five, and have not lost in England’s top-flight away from home since a 4-1 defeat at Watford on November 20, which cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job.

The 20-time English champions will be aware of the importance of a win here, as they are not only chasing West Ham for fourth place, but also Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Tottenham Hotspur at this important phase of the season.
