Manchester United vs Brighton: Match Report | PL 21-22

Manchester United defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at Old Trafford this evening in a crunch Premier League clash.

Brighton started the game brightly in the first five minutes. The opening chances fell to Brighton as they kept our defense busy, and they forced David de Gea into making some crucial saves.

In the next few minutes, Jadon Sancho had a chance to score and his tight angled shot was saved by the goalkeeper. He gathered the rebound and crossed it to Ronaldo, but it was intercepted by Dunk, and the ball was sent out for a corner.

There were opportunities for United to create some decent counter-attacking moves but they lacked the end product.

In the 32nd minute, Anthony Elanga had a chance to score, but Brighton recovered superbly again. Brighton appeared to be the more energetic team, winning the ball back with ease and not giving it away too cheaply.

The Seagulls had a gift of their own just before halftime. Veltman curled in a cross for Moder, who rose to meet it; his header was destined for the top corner, but De Gea rushed over to push it away. He was forced into yet another amazing save moments later, maintaining the score at 0-0.

At halftime, the Old Trafford crowd erupted in boos, evidently agitated. Brighton dominated the first half, so United needed a touch of magic in the second half. They got their winning goal as their very own Ronaldo came to their rescue.

In the 51st minute, Cristiano Ronaldo ended his goal drought by weaving around three defenders on the edge of the box and sending in an unstoppable rocket of a strike.

Moments later, Brighton’s composure started going down and they started making defensive blunders.

Anthony Elanga would have been through on goal if Dunk hadn’t taken him down. The referee signaled a free-kick and gave him a yellow card. VAR intervened and advised the referee to consult the monitor, which he did, and the judgment was revised to a straight red.

The game was now United’s to lose; their fortunes had turned dramatically in only a few minutes. Ronaldo had a chance to double the Reds’ advantage with a header, but Sanchez made another fantastic save to keep the Seagulls in the game.

Another defensive blunder allowed Ronaldo and Fernandes through on goal; the former passed it to his Portuguese teammate, who shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Moments later, Moder beat De Gea and hit the crossbar, but Brighton remained a threat even until the very end. Manchester United needed a second goal to seal the match. Chances came, but United began to show signs of exhaustion and was unable to score.

It was Brighton’s last chance to attack, and Lamptey, who had been impressive all night, delivered a cross into the box, which was met by Wellbeckbut it soared over the bar.

After six nerve-wracking minutes of stoppage time, Brighton was fighting for an equalizer. But Manchester United got that match sealing goal.

Bruno Fernandes scored the winner through a Paul Pogba assist to make it 2-0 for Manchester United.

It was a nail-biting finish to a tough Premier League match.
