Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku has admitted that club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to keep him at Old Trafford, contradicting the Norwegian’s claim that he was happy to let the Belgian international join Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.
The 46-year-old Solskjaer decided to offload the 26-year old forward along with Alexis Sanchez which forced them to start the season a striker short due to the big-name departures. Solskajer also claimed that departure was “the decision that I made and I made it happily”, but Lukaku said responded by saying that there was a time when the movie did not have the approval of the Manchester United manager.
The Italian giants Inter Milan paid £74million on the final day of the Premier League transfer window in August for the services of Lukaku, ending months of speculation over the striker’s future at the Theatre Of Dreams.
But in a recent interview, Lukaku stated that his departure was decided as early as March and he knew that it was time for him to leave even adding that Solskjaer actually wanted to keep hold of the forward, “Solskjaer has my eternal respect, He understood me when I said in March that it was time for me to leave. I had been in the Premier League as an 18-year-old boy and now I am 26. Solskjaer wanted to keep me, but I was ready for something new.”
Ever since arriving at the San Siro, Lukaku has been in great goalscoring form and scored nine goals in 12 league appearances so far and things are looking better for the Belgian in Italy apart from the racist abuse.
