According to the Independent, Manchester United is poised to enter into a competition with Real Madrid for the signing of Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco during the upcoming summer transfer window.
United remains interested in the possibility of signing the Inter Milan defender, despite already having left-back options in Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. The club sees Dimarco as an appealing option due to his versatility and relatively affordable price tag.
United has reportedly engaged in discussions with the Serie A giants, but they face competition from Real Madrid, who are also in search of a new left-back.
Dimarco, who predominantly played as a left wing-back for Inter, had an impressive 2022/23 season. He contributed six goals and 10 assists, with five of those assists coming in the Champions League.

Dimarco’s ability to play effectively in multiple positions, including left wing-back, left-back, and central defence, is seen as a key factor in United’s pursuit of the player.
Manager Erik ten Hag may consider utilizing Dimarco alongside Shaw at left centre-back when Lisandro Martinez is given a rest.
Dimarco’s attacking qualities also make him an attractive option for United. He contributed to 16 goals last season and averaged two crosses per game.
He is currently valued at €35 million (£30m), although Milan’s need to balance their finances by June 30 could potentially lead to a lower transfer fee.

With Real Madrid also interested in Dimarco, United will need to act swiftly to secure his signature. Furthermore, Eduardo Camavinga’s reluctance to play in defence for Real Madrid next season could further motivate the Spanish club’s pursuit of the Inter Milan defender.
