Man United have earmarked Jean Claire-Todibo as their key defensive target

Manchester United have earmarked Nice centre-back Jean Claire-Todibo as their primary transfer target this summer, as reported by Spanish source Mundo Deportivo (page 10).

At present, United are engaged in discussions regarding the potential transfer of Harry Maguire, with West Ham expressing interest.

The club has recently been presented with an upgraded offer of £30 million from the East London team. Both clubs have agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Maguire.

Todibo ranks among the prominent candidates to fill the void left by the English player. Mundo Deportivo’s report asserts that the Ligue 1 star is of the highest interest to the club for potential recruitment.

A potential transfer to ManUnited would also hold advantages for Barcelona. When they sold the French player to Nice in the summer of 2021, they included a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

Should United manage to finalise Maguire’s transfer, they could instantly shift their focus on Todibo. Notably, the defender’s ties to Old Trafford date back to 2019 when he was initially linked with a move to the club.

In the past year, the 23-year-old has stood out as one of the finest centre-backs in the French top league.

During the previous season, he notably achieved an impressive average of 57 successful passes per game, maintaining an accuracy rate of 89 per cent.

Todibo is well-suited for the demanding nature of the English Premier League, as he can recover effectively in counter-attacking scenarios. Currently assessed at approximately £39 million by Nice, his price tag makes him an obvious choice for United.

Given his age of 23, Todibo has the potential to establish himself as a regular starter for the club over the long term.
