Manchester United must be quick to overtake Manchester City in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutch star has been in red-hot form for the current Bundesliga leaders. With 11 goals and 11 assists this season, the 23-year-old has been one of the best right-backs in Europe’s top five leagues.
Several clubs are in the hunt for Jeremie Frimpong since he has a €40 million release clause in his contract. He recently signed a five-year contract but his low transfer fee has been a talking point.
Man United have faced defensive issues this season, particularly in the full-back region.
Diogo Dalot has been a regular performer but he lacks the attacking instants needed in a modern-day defender.
He has chipped in with just five goal contributions in over 38 appearances for his club this term.

Similarly, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been criticised for not contributing much through attack. He is in the final year of his contract and it is unsure whether the club will extend his contract.
Meanwhile, Man City are also looking for a long-term successor to Kylie Walker. Jeremie Frimpong was a part of City’s academy before moving to Germany.
Pep Guardiola is a fan of the Dutch star and he could suit his team’s style of play. However, we believe that United will be working to be one step ahead of their fierce rivals in this race.

Signing Jeremie Frimpong will be a big bonus for the club as they are aiming to assemble a young squad. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team are looking for hungry young players who can add value to the team for years to come.
The Leverkusen defender ticks all the boxes. He has won 50 per cent of all the duels and has 3.2 ball recoveries per game along with excellent attacking numbers.
The Bundesliga ace’s low release clause needs to be exploited and United could make a bargain deal out of this one. However, they need to end the season on a high and convince the defender to move to Old Trafford.
Leverkusen are all set for Champions League football next season but Man Utd are way behind the top-four race. Frimpong would find it better to play for a club that fights for top titles and regularly competes in the most prestigious competitions.
