According to The Guardian, Inter Milan star goalkeeper Andre Onana reportedly has a preference to join Manchester United rather than Chelsea during the upcoming summer transfer window.
While United is engaged in negotiations with their current goalkeeper, David de Gea, for a new long-term contract, manager Erik ten Hag has not guaranteed the Spaniard a starting position for the next season.
According to recent reports, the Red Devils are ready to join Chelsea in the race to sign Onana. Inter Milan, facing ongoing financial difficulties, is likely to sell the 27-year-old goalkeeper.
While negotiations have already begun between Chelsea and Inter, the keeper is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford this summer. Onana is widely regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the world, impressing in his debut season at Inter with 20 clean sheets in 43 appearances.
Throughout the season, he showcased a remarkable save percentage of 78 and exhibited good passing ability, averaging 37 completed passes per game, including seven long balls.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper would represent a significant upgrade over De Gea in Man United’s goal, given his comfort with the ball at his feet and his proactive approach in coming off the goal line.
Onana’s preference to join United is not surprising due to his relationship with manager Erik Ten Hag. The manager previously coached the Milan star for four seasons at Ajax before the goalkeeper’s move to Inter Milan.
The prospect of reuniting with the Dutch tactician could be tempting for Onana. Another factor in favour of Manchester United is their assurance of Champions League football next season, whereas Chelsea won’t be participating in any European competitions.
It remains to be seen whether United is willing to meet the Serie A giant’s asking price of €60 million for their keeper. The Italian club is reportedly reluctant to accept anything less for their prized asset.

While Diogo Costa is an alternative option for Man United, the Porto goalkeeper is also expected to come at a significant cost, with Porto eyeing a package close to his €75 million buy-out clause. Costa is seen as an expensive choice, despite being four years younger than Onana.
Onana, with his familiarity with Ten Hag’s playing style, would be a perfect fit for United. The goalkeeper’s ability to operate as a sweeper-keeper adds to his appeal.
