Manchester United is reportedly making a shocking move for Spain’s Euro 2024 striker Alvaro Morata.
According to Turkish journalist Berat Kunt, United is ready to trigger the £9.7 million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
Their summer search for a striker is intended to take some burden off last summer’s £75 million signing, Rasmus Hojlund.
Erik ten Hag definitely wants an older striker who will make Hojlund grow under his wing, so he is reportedly very interested in 31-year-old Morata.
This potential transfer might be a disappointment for Premier League fans after what they saw during Morata’s hardly inspiring spell at Chelsea from 2017 to 2019.
He found the net only 24 times in 72 games for Chelsea, with many of his performances attracting criticism over his inconsistent finishing.
However, the Spanish striker has also enjoyed successful spells at top clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid.
In his national team career, Morata has earned 75 caps and netted 36 goals.

He also showed a good start to the Euro 2024 competition; he led the attack of Spain really well with young wingers Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.
He was instrumental as Spain won both opening games.
Juventus are also interested in bringing him back to Turin for what would be his third spell at the club.
Morata netted 21 times in all competitions for Atletico Madrid last season, while the striker is looking to leave Atletico this summer after he publicly aired his displeasure at his role within the club.
For Manchester United, signing Morata would give them a seasoned striker to lead their young forwards and be more secure in attack depth.
Though he didn’t fare as well in the Premier League earlier, his whole career success and recent form for Spain underline his potential.
The real test will be how Manchester United plays out its chase for Alvaro Morata as the transfer window wears on.
His next final move may well be back to the Premier League, whereby he will get a chance to redeem his disappointing Premier League debut experience while offering Manchester United an experienced striker to support their squad for the upcoming campaign.
