Manchester United and Chelsea leading the race to sign Ajax striker Antony

As reported by Fichajes, Manchester United and Chelsea are currently a step ahead in the race to sign Ajax attacker Antony.

Despite dramatically bolstering their team in the January transfer window, Barcelona is expected to sign a forward in the summer transfer window.

The departure of Ousmane Dembele will free up a position in the team, while Martin Braithwaite, Luuk de Jong, and Memphis Depay are also expected to depart, leaving room in the squad for a new attacker or two.

The Blaugrana’s prime priority is Erling Haaland, although another forward who can play out wide could arrive at Camp Nou in the summer.

Barcelona is interested in signing AFC Ajax winger Antony, although they are currently trailing Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United in the battle to sign the Brazilian.

Antony, a product of Sao Paulo’s renowned academy, joined Ajax in 2020 and has swiftly established himself as a key player in the squad due to his clever attacking moves. The 21-year-old is having a fantastic season, scoring 11 goals and assisting eight times in just 25 games across all competitions.

Apart from Barcelona and Manchester United, the five-time capped Brazilian international has caught the curiosity of a number of European teams, including Real Madrid. However, according to the article, the two Premier League clubs are presently in the lead.

Manchester United could add a young clinical attacker to their ranks as Edinson Cavani is expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Because Chelsea and Manchester United have both approached Ajax about a possible move at the end of the season, this is the case that they are ahead in this race. The Premier League clubs have a positive relationship with the Dutch champions, which puts them in a strong position to sign Antony.

However, with a deal that runs until 2025, the winger will not be cheap. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will make any attempts to sign him or will allow the forward to move to England.
