Manchester United are confident of securing David de Gea’s future

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United and David de Gea are in advanced talks over an improved £30 million deal.

The English giants are hopeful that the 32-year-old Spanish goalkeeper will sign a new contract with less pay and benefits because he has already said he is willing to take a pay cut from his current salary of £375,000 per week.

Erik ten Hag has been impressed by De Gea’s performances this season, and United has now offered him a three-year contract worth £200,000 per week. Though there may still be some problems to resolve, all parties are growing more optimistic that they can come to an agreement.

The Red Devils haven’t exercised an option in De Gea’s current contract that would have tied the club to his current salary. Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, De Gea is United’s highest earner and second-longest-tenured player after arriving from Atletico Madrid for £18 million in 2011 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Spaniard has played every minute of the 2022–23 Premier League season for United. De Gea’s season got off to a bumpy start when his spot in the starting lineup came under scrutiny following high-profile errors in Ten Hag’s early games.

The most glaring example was his inability to play out from the back against Brentford in their 4-0 defeat on August 13. But he has since turned the tide at Old Trafford.

Loan signing Martin Dubravka was never trusted to play for United in the Premier League and his loan from Newcastle United was terminated in January. Last month, the club signed Jack Butland as a backup option for the Spanish goalkeeper.
