According to the Times, the Manchester United board have received the green light to pursue the transfer of Moises Caicedo, as manager Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen the squad during the ongoing summer transfer window.
United and Ten Hag appear to be in agreement regarding their intentions. Caicedo is being considered as an alternative to Mason Mount, as negotiations with Chelsea for the 24-year-old have become complicated.
The Times reports that the Dutch boss is supportive of switching midfield targets. Previously, Mount had been the primary focus for United, given his contract with Chelsea expiring in just 12 months.
However, the club is now exploring the possibility of signing Caicedo instead. Ten Hag aims to make efficient use of the budget available this summer, as United remains cautious about overspending while ongoing takeover discussions surround the club.

Additionally, the 53-year-old manager emphasizes the importance of not overpaying for players. Acquiring Moises Caicedo from Brighton will not come cheap, as the club values the 21-year-old midfielder on par with £100 million-rated Declan Rice.
United, now facing uncertainties over a deal for Mason Mount, appears determined to test Brighton’s resolve. The possibility of including players in a swap deal for Caicedo is being considered, with Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek mentioned as potential options.
However, it remains uncertain whether United will be successful in securing the Ecuadorian midfielder’s signature. Aside from Caicedo and Mount, the Red Devils are linked with other players in the current summer transfer window.
The club reportedly holds admiration for Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, who faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena.
Romeo Lavia from Southampton and Amadou Onana from Everton have also caught the attention of United. There is a possibility that the club may reconsider a deal for Adrien Rabiot, who was previously of interest to the club 12 months ago.
