Manchester United Boss Claims Sanchez Had To Leave

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez had to leave the club because of his failure to impress since arriving at Old Trafford.

When Sanchez decided to make the move to the red half of Manchester back in the January transfer window of 2018 from Arsenal on a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, there was plenty of hype around the South American. But 18 months and beyond, the United faithful are glad that the 30-year-old has left the club at least for a short spell.

Sanchez joined Serie A club Inter Milan on a loan deal earlier this week and the deal took place just after Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku also joined the Italian club a few weeks earlier. This has raised questions as to why Solskjaer is allowing such high profile attackers to leave the club because a long term injury to one of the senior strikers at United could put the club’s top-four chances in jeopardy.

However, the 46-year-old Norwegian has admitted that it was imperative for Sanchez to move on and away from United because it did not really work for him at the club in over 18 months. Sanchez netted just five times in all competitions for Manchester United and his poor form also did not help.

While speaking to reporters, Solskjaer explained the main reason why Sanchez had to leave United for regular football elsewhere, “Alexis needed to go, At the moment, we know he’s been here for 18 months and it’s not really worked out for him. For him to restart and get himself playing regularly and scoring goals that will only benefit everyone in the end. For us, we’re going to watch every weekend to see Romelu [Lukaku] and Alexis playing together.”
