Jesse Lingard will leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of June, according to the club’s official website.
Lingard has been a part of United since he was a member of the under-9s team in 2001. After feeling betrayed by his treatment over the previous 12 months, the 29-year-old decided to depart Old Trafford this summer.
Lingard, a lifelong United supporter, rose through the club’s academy system and spent more than 20 years at Old Trafford, scoring 35 goals in 232 senior appearances.
Lingard made his United debut against Swansea City in August 2014 before becoming a regular in Louis van Gaal’s side the following season, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2016 FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace, which will go down as his most memorable moment in a Redshirt.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named permanent manager, the England international dropped down the pecking order despite appearing regularly under Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. Lingard even went two years without making an appearance in the Premier League.
In January 2021, he joined West Ham on loan and scored nine goals in 16 appearances to help the Hammers qualify for the Europa League. According to multiple speculations, the striker might return to London or join Newcastle United.
Lingard returned to Old Trafford after his loan spell to warm the bench — not just under Solskjaer, but also under Ralf Rangnick. Under the two managers, he only made four starts.
All this led him to make a strict decision on his future and hence, he has decided to part ways with the club.
