Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe joins Aston Villa on loan

As reported by the club’s official website, Manchester United centre-back Axel Tuanzebe has joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan. He returns to Aston Villa after two years and he has a good reputation at the club.

Meanwhile, he has also signed a new contract with Manchester United which will last till June 2023 with an option to extend for a further year.

Axel Tuanzebe got his chances to perform at Manchester United as he appeared 28 times for the club from the past two seasons. He received seven yellow cards in his first 13 appearances at the club. He also suffered few injuries which were quite frustrating for him.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had initially hinted that a loan move may be on the cards for the young centre-back. Aston Villa was the most preferred destination as he had improved himself a lot since playing for the Villians two years ago.

He helped Aston Villa gain promotion to the Premier League via the Sky Bet Championship play-offs stage. He made 30 appearances for them and was a regular in their defensive back-line.

The main reason for his loan move was an abundance of central defenders in the squad. Manchester United already has Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, and Phil Jones in that position. The chances of Tuanzebe playing regularly this season were minimal.

Axel Tuanzebe has many years to develop himself into a fine player and he certainly needs more regular team football. He has enough capability to jump directly into Aston Villa’s starting XI.

There are many other players that are on the brink of a possible exit or a loan move. Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira and Phil Jones are all nearing an exit this summer.
