Injury Update

Manchester United Defender Luke Shaw Set To Miss The Rest Of The Season

PL giants Manchester United have been hit with a huge setback as experienced full-back Luke Shaw is said to have faced an injury relapse during their impressive win against Luton Town.

This has raised concerns among the fans that he might be sidelined for the remainder of the season, according to the Daily Mail (h/t the Metro).

Luke Shaw getting susbstituted

The 28-year-old suffered a relapse of a leg injury during United’s recent victory against Aston Villa. The manager quickly substituted him at half-time as a precautionary measure.

However, the gaffer still included Shaw in the starting lineup for the game at Kenilworth Road. Erik ten Hag might regret this decision since it has brought more bad than good for the player and the team.

The English defender did not last until halftime, struggling from the injury relapse by the 43rd minute. Fellow defender Victor Lindelof replaced him, and Shaw was observed limping onto United’s team bus.

There are chances that he may be left out for the rest of the season due to the consistent injury issue. A long rehabilitation and a three-month surgery period could be on the cards for the player.

The Red Devils have faced a challenging season, but they have shown improvement lately by winning their last four league games. This could a major boost in their quest to win the CL spot.

However, the team may have to play their rest of the matches without a recognized left-back.

Man United and their defensive woes continue to trouble them this season

The English giants face selection dilemma since majority of their options are sidelined and this keeps them in a never-ending loop.

Another left-back Tyrell Malacia has not played for the club this season due to knee surgery, and his return to fitness is delayed due to recovery issues (same in Shaw’s case). Meanwhile, Argentine star Lisandro Martinez is also sidelined for eight-ten weeks due to a knee ligament injury.

The club expected both their full backs to return and hence they terminated Spanish star Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January. However, this decision could now pose challenges for Ten Hag and his side.

Diogo Dalot is now a candidate to fill the left-back position. However, it remains to be seen whether who will occupy the right-back spot as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also dealing with an injury.

Ten Hag may have to resort to using Lindelof or Sofyan Amrabat at left-back, both of whom have struggled when playing in that position.
