Manchester United enter the race to sign Renato Sanches

Manchester United has joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the hunt to sign Lille star Renato Sanches, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils have a number of midfielders in their squad, but they may be short on quality midfielders in the near future. Paul Pogba’s contract at Old Trafford is up next summer, and he is expected to leave.

Next year, Nemanja Matic will turn 34, and his contract will expire in 2023. Donny van de Beek has struggled for playing time. The appointment of new Interim coach Ralf Ragnarick may turn his fortunes if he gets more game time.

Unless Bruno Fernandes plays a deeper role, United will be left with only Scott McTominay and Fred in the midfield. As a result, the club might use some reinforcements, and Renato Sanches appears to be one of them.

The midfielder was a significant player in Portugal’s 2016 European Championship victory. The 24-year-old has been making the rounds in recent years, attempting to kick-start his career.

He struggled in the Premier League with Swansea before being permanently sold to Lille by Bayern Munich in 2019. Last season, the Portuguese international starred for the French club, leading them to the league triumph.

His box-to-box mentality might come in handy if United loses Pogba and Van de Beek in 2022. They will, however, have to beat Arsenal and Liverpool to his signature. Both clubs are aiming to improve their midfield and would be interested in a player who is towards the end of his career.

As a result, the Manchester club will have to outbid their rivals for the player’s signature if they want to see him don the famed red shirt anytime soon.
