Manchester United in talks to extend Aaron-Wan Bissaka’s contract

Manchester United are in discussions to extend the contract of their right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as reported by the Telegraph.

Although the English defender’s current deal has just one year remaining, there is an option to extend it for an additional year.

Despite a period of being on the fringes prior to the appointment of manager Erik ten Hag, Wan-Bissaka has reclaimed his position as a regular starter under the Dutch coach and has shown significant improvement.

The manager’s positive remarks about the former Crystal Palace right-back have influenced the club’s decision to offer him a new long-term contract.

Discussions between the two parties occurred last month and are now set to progress further, with the focus shifting to player matters after the closure of the summer transfer window.

Wan-Bissaka has been a consistent presence, starting and completing all four Premier League matches this season, and even contributed with an assist in their 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first game of the 2023-24 season.

During the initial months of Ten Hag’s first season in charge, the full-back had a limited role within the team.

The club was even considering selling the defender, and Palace showed interest in bringing him back. However, Wan-Bissaka’s importance grew significantly in the latter part of the season as United won the EFL Cup and secured a spot in the Champions League.
