According to The Sun, Manchester United is planning to sign Norwich City right-back Max Aarons this January as part of a rebuilding plan.
This season, Diogo Dalot has been an unquestioned starter at right-back. Under Erik ten Hag, he has started every game in the Premier League.
However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has only played in four competitive minutes, making it very evident that the head coach does not have him in his plans. In the middle of all, it’s been claimed that United has long admired Aarons and may make a move for Norwich star when the transfer market reopens in two months.
This winter, Aaron might be offered £10 million in order to sign Aarons. He is one of two right-backs the team is interested in, the other being Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen. Aarons has long been rumoured to be leaving for a major club, and he might finally do so in January.
The 22-year-old has impressed with his strong defensive skills, but he hasn’t had much of an attacking influence. He is frequently thought of as an aggressive full-back, but in 19 games for the Canaries so far this season, he has only contributed to one goal.
Frimpong has performed substantially better for Leverkusen, scoring five goals and dishing out two assists in 17 appearances. He has also been able to contribute defensively to the German side. Aaron should be available this winter for far less money than Frimpong, but the team should ideally search for Dalot’s best competition at this stage of the season.
The fact that Aarons has Premier League experience is a plus. Ten Hag might believe that this season he can help the 22-year-old grow into a more reliable performer like the Portuguese star.
