Manchester United are ready to target Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United manager Erik ten Hag has sent scouts to analyse the 23-year-old in action. This winter, the Dutchman needs to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford after the abrupt departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to reports, Brereton Diaz will cost roughly £10 million for the Old Trafford outfit. Despite the fact that his contract expires in just six months, he would still cost double figures.
The Chilean could be seen as an option for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo. The Dutch star will cost a fee of approximately £43 million, and that would be a big sum in comparison to the Championship player.
Brereton Diaz, though, is not on the same level as Gakpo, and Ten Hag ought to aim much higher than the striker from Blackburn.
Within the next 12 months, Ten Hag must have United back in the mix for major awards. He needs to sign at least two elite players to Old Trafford in order to accomplish his targets.
Since the start of the 2021–2022 season, Brereton Diaz has made a big impression, and for Blackburn, he appears to have achieved an entirely new level. The Chilean striker scored 22 goals in 37 championship games last year. After the new year, Diaz went nine games without scoring, but he made up for it by scoring twice in Blackburn’s final four matches of the year.
But, looking at the bigger picture, Brereton Diaz might be insufficient for United. If Ten Hag wants to lead Manchester United back to the top of the league, he needs to aim much higher.
