Manchester United was thought to be very close to signing Julian Alvarez as per several reports but now it has been deemed the exact opposite.
As per the latest transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are just days away from signing the promising Argentine striker from River Plate.
Alvarez has been a phenomenon in the Liga Profesional. Altogether he has managed to score 36 goals and 25 assists in 96 appearances for River Plate.
Being just 21-years-old, the young Argentinian striker was a key member of the South American side last year as he scored 20 goals in 35 appearances to help them clinch the league title. Due to his growing influence on the team in the past year, he was also given a call-up to the national team.

Manchester United was always thought to be the front-runner in the race to sign Julian Alvarez with many claiming that he could be moving in within a few weeks.
But out of nowhere, our fierce rivals Manchester City have made a deal with River Plate to sign the young striker for just £16m. The club has also asked Manchester City to keep him on loan this season.
He is not the only player who has been highly linked with both the Manchester teams, with Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland also being heavily linked to join one of these clubs.
But as things stand, Alvarez will be walking to the other end as the Red Devils were never looking for him.
