Manchester United Player Ratings against Luton Town | Carabao Cup 2020-21

Manchester United are off to winning ways this season with their victory in the third round of Carabao Cup, against Luton Town. With a comfortable 3-nil win, United have reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and will look to do the same in the Premier League as well. Last night, a few United players looked good giving Solskjaer a ray of hope.

Let us now have a look at how the United players rated against Luton Town in their Carabao Cup clash.

DEAN HENDERSON – 7

Solskjaer handed Dean Henderson the first start of his United career and the English goalkeeper lived up to the manager’s expectations. Henderson has nothing to do for most parts of the game but came up with a great save to keep United in the game when the score was 0-1.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 6

The right-back returned to football with a good performance against Luton Town. He barely had to do anything defensively and provided the width when United attacked and was good on the ball.

ERIC BAILLY – 8

Arguably one of the best players on the pitch, Eric Bailly showed everyone what he can when he stays fit. The Ivorian centre-back protected United’s goal and also came up with a goal-line clearance to save United. Bailly gave Solskjaer every reason to pick him in the starting XI against Brighton in the weekend.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 7

Maguire looked careful with the ball and played some good passes coming out from the back. With his heading abilities, he deserved a goal from United’s corners but failed to even hit the target. The Englishman was defensively sound and looked fine after a horrid Premier League game.

BRANDON WILLIAMS – 6

Brandon Williams gave Solskjaer another performance where he reiterated the fact that United need a left-footed left-back. Williams surely won the penalty for Mata’s goal but the youngster found it difficult to play on the left side because of his right-footedness.

FRED – 7

Fred played as the box-to-box midfielder last night, which is his favourite position and he showed why. He had a few shots at goals but Luton players threw their bodies to prevent it from turning into goals. Fred had a good game and distributed the ball for United.

NEMANJA MATIC – 7

Matic was as confident as ever while shielding the back-four for United. He started from where he left off last season and kept the ball moving for the Red Devils.

DONNY VAN DE BEEK – 8

In his first start for the Red Devils since his arrival this summer from Ajax, Van de Beek was unlucky not to get an assist last night. He created some great chances and his movement caused Luton Town a lot of problems. In a strong United side, Van de Beek would cause havoc to the opposition.

JUAN MATA – 7

Mata won the man of the match award due to his goal from the penalty spot. He was good as Luton Town played a deep defence but Mata could have scored one more goal at least as his shots were saved.

JESSE LINGARD – 8

One of the brightest sparks in the United side, Lingard’s tireless running down the channel gave United options. He was unlucky not to score and Solskjaer would hope Lingard could replicate his performances against bigger sides.

ODION IGHALO – 5

Ighalo was rusty and ineffective for most parts of the game and rarely linked up play. The veteran found it difficult to stamp an authority on the game and disappointed Solskjaer.

SUBSTITUTES –

MASON GREENWOOD – 8

Greenwood was an instant impact on the pitch as he came on for Mata with 10 minutes to go. His goal and assist sealed the deal for United as the youngster is on his way to break his own goalscoring record of last season.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8

Marcus Rashford came on for Ighalo and showed what United lacked for the entire time, the goalscoring touch. He scored the second goal of the game, which put the game past Luton Town.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 7

Fernandes was involved as soon as he came on and played some good passes to the forward line.
