Manchester United receive huge blow as Julian Alvarez could move to Italy

Manchester United could lose out on River Plate sensation Julian Alvarez, whose agent is said to have traveled to Italy to discuss a move to Serie A.

This season, the striker has been in sensational form in Argentina. Alvarez has been thrown into the limelight in recent months after scoring 18 goals in 21 games in the Argentine Primera Division this season. He’s also credited with nine assists.

That performance has helped his squad to the top of the standings, with 16 wins in 25 games. The European teams are now circling as his demand rises.

The player’s agent has been in Italy, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, to discuss a transfer to either Inter Milan or their city rivals AC Milan.

Fiorentina is also said to be interested in the youngster, with their star striker Dusan Vlahovic’s future uncertain due to interest from a number of prominent European clubs. With his contract in Argentina set to expire in the last month of the year, Alvarez could attract interest from the Red Devils and Atletico Madrid.

Last April, the 21-year-old made his Argentina debut as a replacement for Angel Di Maria during Argentina’s World Cup qualifying draw with Chile.

He’s made four more appearances since then, including one in the Copa America against Bolivia. Alvarez was also named the best player in South America in 2021.

He has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave River Plate for less than £17 million, which might lead to a bidding war for his services. As things stand, the Red Devils are leading the fight in England, with the club prominently connected with a move for the striker.

Alvarez has several years ahead of him and has the potential to become one of the top attackers in the world. And if he were to move to the Premier League, his worth would increase.

But as the Serie A clubs have brought in more seriousness for his signature, the English clubs, particularly Manchester United, will have to act quicker to strike a deal.
