Manchester United star Eric Bailly has agreed to a three-year contract with Besiktas

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has reached an agreement on personal terms for a three-year contract with Besiktas, as reported by Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

United have decided that the Ivory Coast international is no longer in their plans and are open to releasing him on a free transfer this summer.

Despite not having any formal offers on the table, it’s now being reported that Bailly might opt to mutually terminate his contract with United in order to facilitate a move to Besiktas in Istanbul.

The 29-year-old central defender has agreed to a three-year contract with Besiktas. He is expected to engage in discussions to end his contract with his parent club on Thursday (today).

Bailly was signed by United from Villarreal for £30 million around seven years ago. While he has shown remarkable performances at times, his progress has been hindered by injuries, preventing him from securing a regular spot.

In the previous year, the African star showed potential during pre-season under manager Erik ten Hag’s guidance. However, he chose to join Marseille as he sought the assurance of consistent first-team playing time.

Marseille had a conditional obligation to buy Bailly for £6 million, but the clause was not activated. Despite the French club qualifying for the Champions League, Bailly fell short of meeting the required number of appearances, having participated in only 23 matches across various competitions.

While United recently assigned a modest price of £2 million for their centre-back, the possibility of his departure on a free transfer is now looming.

From our viewpoint, this could be a wise decision. Presently, Bailly holds 11 months remaining on his contract with an annual salary of £4.16 million.

United could potentially save a portion of his wages by allowing his departure.
