Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing West Ham’s Declan Rice and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in the January transfer window despite the uncertainty surrounding manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future.
Solskjaer is under mounting pressure following United’s worst start for 30 years and the club sits 12th in the Premier League after eight matches.
But United are not being dithered from drawing up a list of targets in the January transfer window.
Declan Rice who has established himself for both club and country in the defensive midfield position started off as a center-back before going on to make the defensive midfield position his own.
The 21-year-old will cost upwards of £70m but will bring calm and solidity to United’s midfield which has lacked intensity and discipline so far this season. Playing Rice alongside Paul Pogba would give the Frenchman the license to get forward and create chances for the forwards.
Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City in the past but has stayed loyal to Napoli but United believe they can convince the defender to leave Naples in January.
United have at times looked shaky in defense this season despite the presence of £80m summer signing Harry Maguire at center-back.
United still has doubts about Victor Lindelof and the proposition of having a partnership of Koulibably and Maguire will make United fans mouth water.
Tuanzebe started alongside Maguire in the defeat against Newcastle last Sunday with Lindelof injured, Jones has dropped out of the side under Solskjaer, Bailly is out with a long-term injury and Smalling is spending the season on loan at AS Roma.
Koulibaly would cost United a record fee with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis famously saying that if Maguire is worth £80m then Koulibaly is worth at least £150m.
