Manchester United target Robin Koch has decided to move to the Bundesliga

According to German outlet Kicker, Leeds United defender Robin Koch has rejected Manchester United’s offer and has decided to make a return to the Bundesliga this summer.

The 26-year-old defender has a clause in his contract that permits him to leave on loan. While United had shown interest in signing Koch, it is reported that he chose to return to Germany.

Koch, who is versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder as well, is now expected to consider offers from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen as he decides his next destination.

Koch has rejected United for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he desires a leadership role at his new club, which may not be guaranteed at United as he is seen as a backup option.

Secondly, the defender believes that playing in the Bundesliga will increase his chances of catching the attention of Germany manager Hansi Flick ahead of Euro 2024.

Considering Koch has no intentions of extending his contract expiring next summer, it is likely that he has played his final game for Leeds. The versatile defender is now exploring options for a new club.

United are actively seeking to bolster their central defensive options. There is a chance that Harry Maguire could depart either on loan or permanently this summer, and manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in bringing in a player who excels in aerial duels.

Koch showcased impressive statistics last season, averaging four clearances per game and winning 62 per cent of his aerial challenges. With the Leeds star now pursuing other opportunities, United may reconsider their interest in signing Axel Disasi from Monaco.

Disasi has reportedly expressed his willingness to move to Old Trafford, and Monaco are open to negotiating a transfer fee of €40 million.
