Manchester United were reported to have an ‘important’ summer this transfer window, looking to capitalize on the third-place finish in the Premier League. But in the end, it turned out to be one of those transfer windows, which left the fanbase red-faced and showed the board incompetency. The Red Devils didn’t sign even one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority signings, which included Jadon Sancho, Dayot Upamecano and Jack Grealish.
The Red Devils signed only one player before deadline day, with Donny Van de Beek’s signing from Ajax. On deadline day, Manchester United signed four players which showed the board’s incompetence and desperation after failing with their transfer plans. The board didn’t just fail in signing players, United failed to offload players as well as the club only sold Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling on a permanent basis.
Let us know have a look at Manchester United’s signings in the summer transfer window.
#1- DONNY VAN DE BEEK –
Donny Van de Beek’s signing was a surprise to most of the United fanbase, who had grown tired of seeing painstakingly slow negotiations. Starting from his rumours to his actual signing for the Red Devils, everything happened in the matter of just a week. Van de Beek joined from Ajax for a reported fee of about £40m including add ons.
Former United legend and current Ajax sporting director, Edwin Van der Sar helped United do a deal quickly for Van de Beek. The Dutchman has already scored for the Red Devils in his first appearance in the Premier League. Van de Beek looks set to become one of the best United players already and has a bright future ahead of him.
#2- ALEX TELLES –
Arguably Manchester United’s best signing of this summer transfer window, Alex Telles could be a game-changer for the Red Devils. The Brazilian international is one of the best left-backs in Europe and will bring a lot to United’s game going forward. Telles was reportedly signed for about €15m, which is a bargain looking at his talent and experience at the highest level.
With Luke Shaw’s consistent injuries, Telles will be very useful for the Red Devils and might even replace Shaw. There is no doubt in his ability going forward, but he will have to defend well in the Premier League. Telles is 27-years old and at the peak of his powers and should be backed to do well with Manchester United.
#3- EDINSON CAVANI –
Manchester United signed Edinson Cavani on the last day of the summer transfer window, on a free transfer. Cavani has a proven goalscoring record wherever he has played, in Napoli, PSG as well as the Uruguayan national side. But his signing has caused a mixed reaction in the United fanbase as some believe his addition will bring in goals and others feel it was an act of sheer desperation by the board.
Cavani has also been given the famous United No.7 shirt, which will only add to the pressure on the centre-forward. With Anthony Martial misfiring from the beginning of this season, the Red Devils will need Edinson Cavani to fire big time.
#4- FACUNDO PELLISTRI –
Another deadline day signing, Manchester United signed Facundo Pellistri from Penarol, Uruguay. The 18-year old is one of the most talented players in South America and was signed with some help from Diego Forlan. The right-winger is known for his pace, skills on the ball and directness of play, which will all help Manchester United.
Though the youngster looks far from being a finished product, it has been reported that Manchester United are ready to bring him directly into the first-team squad.
#5- AMAD DIALLO –
Due to work permit issues, Manchester United’s final signing this summer transfer window, Amad Diallo will only join in January. The Red Devils agreed on a fee of about €40m including add ons, for the 18-year old, who has been heavily scouted by United. He is known to be one of the best youngsters in the world and should light up Old Trafford once he arrives in January.
